About the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences

The Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry & Health Sciences has an enviable research record and is the University of Melbourne’s largest faculty in terms of management of financial resources, employment of academic and professional staff, teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate (including research higher degree) students and the conduct of basic and applied research. The Faculty’s annual revenue is $628m with approximately 55% of this income related to research activities.

About the Role

The Graduate Research Team Coordinator will lead a team of four graduate research officers in the provision of accurate and detailed information and advice in relation to admissions, scholarships and current candidature. They will also lead the team to administer the faculty’s graduate research course and scholarship applications as well as the faculty-level assessment of current candidature variations and milestone management

In a typical week at work, you may:

  • Deliver expert service and advice to stakeholders of the Learning and Teaching Unit (including but not limited to University Services, MDHS Graduate Schools and Departments, academic staff, prospective and current students) within agreed service standards, referral protocols and a framework of excellence in customer service
  • Effectively motivate, coach and manage staff to achieve goals. Provide clear performance expectations, regular feedback and document performance outcomes, ensuring poor performance is addressed and high performance nurtured and rewarded.
  • Administer the faculty’s graduate research course and scholarship applications including scholarship scoring, assessment of applications against selection criteria, and provide support to the Associate Dean (Graduate Research) in regard to the timely management of faculty approval processes.

About You

You are a team leader with the ability to influence and forge working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. You have outstanding interpersonal and verbal communication skills with the ability to relate effectively with a range of people across all levels of the organisation.

Ideally, you will further have:

  • A degree with subsequent relevant experience; or extensive experience and specialist expertise or broad knowledge in technical or administrative fields; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated problem solving/analytics skills with the ability to deliver creative solutions. Highly developed skills in time management, setting priorities, planning and organising own work and that of others in order to meet deadlines.
