Job Requirements:

The Civil and Environmental Engineering is recruiting for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to play a key role in pavement geotechnics with special emphasis on the use of marginal materials; modelling and testing blended mix of gravel and recycled materials like construction and demolition materials and recycled glass; and investigating full-scale instrumented sections of sealed and unsealed roads in southeast Queensland. The position will be based centrally located UTS Campus in Ultimo and at UTS Tech Lab in Botany, and will report directly to Dr Sanjay Nimbalkar.
The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including works such as bridges, roads, railways, canals, dams, tunnels, power plants, water and wastewater treatment plants, landfills, buildings and towers.
About the role
The role will provide research support in pavement geotechnics, with a special focus on laboratory-field-numerical-based activities, including setting up field trials, conducting research, publishing high quality journal papers, and assisting in HDR supervision.
  • Conducting research in marginal materials and contributing to the administrative aspects of project operation.
  • Writing high quality technical reports and papers as well as presenting and promoting project findings in national/international conferences.
  • Working productively on university-government-industry collaborative project.
  • Working with colleagues from a diverse range of backgrounds as an influential team member and working independently.
  • Ensuring hazards and risks are identified and effectively controlled for project activities.
About you
  • PhD in Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Knowledge of marginal materials and geotechnical testing approaches, with experience in geotechnical laboratory experiments on granular materials.
  • Knowledge related to transportation geotechnics with reference to road pavements or railway infrastructure.
  • Ability to deliver high quality results for government-funded research projects as a contributor.
  • Familiarity with mathematical analysis including machine learning algorithms, with some experience in constitutive and numerical modelling of transport infrastructure.
Base Salary Range: $93,219 to $100,063 pa (Level A. Step 3-4)
* there is a forthcoming increase of 1% on base salary for Professional and Academic staff
This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.

This position is full-time and appointment will be made on a fixed term basis for 36 months.
